Compassion International

Sponsoring children in need is breaking the cycle of poverty.

Compassion International exists as a Christian child advocacy ministry that releases children from spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty and enables them to become responsible, fulfilled Christian adults.

Founded by the Rev. Everett Swanson in 1952, Compassion began providing Korean War orphans with food, shelter, education and health care, as well as Christian training.

Today, Compassion helps more than 1 million children in 25 countries.

Haiti Earthquake

UPDATE: April 30, 2010 – Through our census, we have accounted for nearly 93 percent of our program beneficiaries at the moderately and significantly affected child development centers.

At this time, we have not yet accounted for approximately 1,700 children. We are continuing to contact sponsors whose children we do have specific information on.

Our church partners are searching the tent cities daily to locate the rest of the children. In addition, regionally based partnership facilitators are searching the countryside to find children who may have relocated outside of Port-au-Prince after the quake.

Regular activities are still not taking place at child development centers and Child Survival Programs significantly affected by the earthquake. However, affected church partners continue to conduct camps to help address the psychological, physical, nutritional and cognitive needs of our registered children and the mothers and babies participating in our Child Survival Program

We are now processing letters and gifts for all child development centers in Haiti. If you send a gift amount, please do not specify how it should be used. It will be very difficult for our Haiti staff to follow through with the request.

Please continue to be faithful to pray about the situation in Port-au-Prince. May the Lord supply Compassion staff, children, families and volunteers with renewed strength each day. Pray for God to equip and encourage them as they face the overwhelming needs and realities brought on by the devastation of the earthquake.

Compassion International releasing children from poverty in Jesus' name

Compassion International's mission is to release children from poverty in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ.  I have seen first hand the amazing work they do in the poorest areas of the world.

Thank you for reaching out through prayer and financial assistance to those who are so in need at this time.

In Christ's love,
Shari
