the Power of Color

Perfect color is something everyone can see and enjoy instantly. The perfect color palette creates harmony without monotony and contrast without conflict.

Certain colors in your palette can and should be used to accentuate certain areas. Other colors can be used to distract from certain features because they are slow to catch the attention. Black and white are good examples. Basically speaking, white makes you look larger and black makes you look thinner. We call that illusion dressing. But be careful not to overdo it. If you wear black all over and it's not in your color palette, it will overpower you, cause you to look tired, and draw attention directly to those areas.

Developing a dynamic wardrobe begins by identifying your dominant color characteristics; eye color, skin tone and natural hair color. Choosing and combining the right colors for your wardrobe, makeup and hair is essential for creating that "head-to-toe" look.  You will look your most dynamic choosing the colors that bring out your best features.

There are several schools of thought in determining a person's color palette. I have studied color analysis by Season (winter, spring, summer, and autumn), as well as classification by Dominant Color Characteristics. I prefer the later. I believe that ones dominant colors provide a greater selection while maintaining color boundaries and removing opinion from the method.
